Greetings parents!

I hope you all enjoyed the lovely bird feeders your students made from recycled milk cartons! We had a lot of fun creating them, and hopefully many birds stop by for a snack!

April has been a fun month for our science lessons! Our class has learned about the life cycle of a butterfly, parts of a plant, and how to mix colors with walking water. In continuation of our awesome science lessons I have a very entertaining science experiment planned for next week. It does involve dairy products and soda so PLEASE, if your child is lactose intolerant or you wish for them to not have soda please inform me as soon as possible before next Tuesday (4/26). Worry not though! They will still be able to participate in the science experiment with another fun activity.
I wish you all a safe and wonderful weekend! Don't forget to reduce, reuse, and recycle!

Spring Break writing journals

Spring break is next week and the students have their writing journals to complete. Parents, please don't forget to have them write at least four entries!! I've posted a photo with important things to remember when writing in their journals. I'm looking forward to reading (and later hearing!) about all their wonderful adventures! I hope you all have a fun and safe spring break! I can't wait to see my wonderful class in one week!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Learn to read, read to love!
Dr. Seuss' imaginative stories make reading and learning fun! Through the use of repetition, rhyme, and colorful illustrations, Dr. Seuss' books help children become better readers. In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, my first grade students shared their favorite books during our reading workshop hour. It was really exciting to hear (and see) the students getting very animated while reading to each other! Later during our writing hour I had the class complete a really fun word rhyming activity. Students were given worksheets with 4 Dr. Seuss cat hats and on each hat there was one word that they needed to come up with 4 other words to rhyme with. It was very entertaining and the students did a great job rhyming!
